South Chamber did not begin as a new venture. It grew out of an established Romania–Asia chamber, its institutional agreements and its working relationships, and carries that record into a wider mandate.

Founded in Bucharest as the India – Southeast Asia Chamber of Commerce, with a mandate covering trade between Romania and the major economies of Asia.
